Richard Jefferson Says He Knows LeBron James’ Next Team But Won’t Tell Anyone

Richard Jefferson has a secret. And he’s not sharing it.

The retired forward and former LeBron James teammate dropped a bombshell on “The Road Trippin'” podcast by claiming he knows exactly where James will play next season. Jefferson said James told him the whole plan, including the date he informed the Lakers he was leaving and the destination he chose.

“He told me exactly what was going to happen,” Jefferson told the podcast crew. “He told me the date that he was going to tell the Lakers that he moved away. Then he told me where he was going to go. He told me, but I can’t tell anybody.”

So there’s that.

James told the Lakers on July 1 that he was moving on after eight seasons in Los Angeles. That ended an era that produced one championship in 2020. Since then, his camp has fielded interest from what feels like half the league. The Timberwolves, Warriors, Cavaliers, and Heat have all popped up as possible landing spots. Rich Paul has said publicly a decision might not come quickly.

But according to Jefferson, the delay isn’t indecision. It’s strategy.

“They’re waiting on some other dominoes to fall to make sure everything’s aligned,” Jefferson said. He noted that the Lakers themselves went quiet for a day before suddenly reshaping their roster once James informed them of his exit.

Jefferson and James have stayed close since their championship run together in Cleveland. Jefferson made it clear their conversations are ongoing as the plan plays out. “We’re probably going to chop it up today,” he said. “We’ve been really kind of game planning how we want everything to go for the next point.”

The interesting part here isn’t just that Jefferson claims to know. It’s that he keeps dropping hints about knowing without actually revealing anything. That’s a tightrope walk. Either he’s sitting on the biggest scoop in sports or he’s messing with everyone. Given his friendship with James and his history on that Cavs team, betting on the former feels safer.

For now, fans are stuck parsing cryptic comments from James’ inner circle. Jefferson is holding onto what might be the most sought-after piece of information in professional basketball. And until LeBron makes it official, we’re all just waiting.
