From 10 games under to right back in it

There was a point in June where this season looked lost. The Red Sox were 10 games under .500 and the fanbase was already talking about trade deadlines and next year. But since then, something clicked. The pitching stabilized. The bats got hot. And now they’ve rattled off 11 straight wins, the kind of run that can flip a whole season on its head.

The first game Friday was a laugher. Boston put up a 10-spot and held the Rays scoreless in front of a loud Fenway crowd. The second game was messier, tighter, but the result was the same. That’s how good teams win doubleheaders. You steamroll one, then you grind out the other.

Stakes are real now

The Red Sox made the playoffs last year and lost to the Yankees in the Wild Card round. The goal for 2026 was clear from the start: get back, and this time do damage. For a long time, that goal felt like wishful thinking. Now it looks plausible.

Boston still has work to do. They’re at .500, not cruising. The Wild Card race is crowded and the margin for error is thin. But being at .500 for the first time since March matters. It means the first half of the season is effectively erased. Everything from here forward is a fresh start.
