Real Madrid Might Actually Sell Tchouameni After All and Man United Is Ready to Pay Big

Manchester United’s midfield rebuild just got a lot more interesting. The club is already working on bringing Ederson in as their first midfield signing this summer, but they’re not stopping there. With Casemiro gone to Inter Miami on a free and Manuel Ugarte out long-term after tearing his ACL at the World Cup, United needs bodies in the middle of the park. And they’ve got their eyes on a big one.

Aurelien Tchouameni. The Real Madrid midfielder. And according to transfer reporter Dean Jones, the Frenchman is now open to a move to Old Trafford. But there’s a catch.

Tchouameni wants to hear from Madrid first. If the club tells him he’s not in their plans, he’s willing to entertain United’s interest. That might sound like a typical agent-driven hedge, but here’s the thing: Real Madrid might actually be ready to say goodbye.

Why Madrid Might Let Him Go

Real Madrid had a busy summer already. They brought in Denzel Dumfries, Ibrahima Konate, Marc Cucurella and Bernardo Silva. That’s four first-team players added to a roster that wasn’t exactly thin. The squad is bloated now, and Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Real needs to move players out before making any more moves for Jose Mourinho’s team.

So a big name or two has to go. And Tchouameni, at 26 years old with years left in his prime, is the kind of asset that would fetch serious money. According to Mundo Deportivo, United is prepared to bid over €100 million — roughly £85 million — to make this happen. That’s actually more than they were willing to spend on Mateus Fernandes, who they’d previously earmarked for a big-money move before that deal fell through.

Jones reports that Real Madrid is “opening up” to the idea of cashing in. For United and INEOS, that’s basically a green light. They see Tchouameni as the perfect long-term replacement for Casemiro, who played that holding midfield role before heading to Miami.

United’s Midfield Shopping List

United missed out on Elliot Anderson earlier in the window. Same with Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali. They’ve also been looking at Bournemouth’s Alex Scott. But Tchouameni is the marquee name, the kind of signing that changes how people talk about your summer business.

Jones says United is expected to push forward with talks on both sides — with the player’s camp and with Real Madrid. But nothing is happening overnight. Tchouameni is currently with France at the World Cup, and Les Bleus just reached the quarterfinals. They play Morocco on Thursday night. Jones stressed that the midfielder won’t make any decisions about his future while he’s still focused on trying to win a World Cup.

That makes sense. But the groundwork is being laid. And for a United team that’s been chasing midfielders all summer, having Tchouameni actually willing to listen is a bigger step than anyone expected a few weeks ago.
