Ran Carthon Told Brendan Sorsby’s Camp to Stop Talking. He Has a Point.

Former Titans general manager Ran Carthon didn’t mince words this week. His message to the people around Brendan Sorsby? Enough.

“For the people that are around Brendan Sorsby right now, y’all have done enough talking,” Carthon said on CBS. “Let’s just move forward. Let’s find a way to move forward.”

Sorsby won’t be in the NFL in 2026. The league declined to hold a supplemental draft this summer, shutting down his only path to get there. He also can’t play college ball anymore, not after the NCAA found he gambled on football games — including games his Indiana team played in 2022.

The circus around Sorsby has been loud for months

Every few weeks, another statement drops. Sorsby’s attorney vowed to challenge the NFL’s decision. His agent fired off comments. Texas Tech, where Sorsby briefly landed after leaving Indiana, issued statements of its own. It’s been a messy, public back-and-forth with no clear win for anyone.

Carthon’s take is that all that noise is hurting Sorsby more than helping him. “The best thing for this kid, and through the eyes of NFL front offices, is to take your punishment and move forward,” he said. “That’s the only way through for this kid, just allowing him to push forward in his life.”

So what now for Sorsby

He’s eligible for the 2027 NFL Draft, but that’s two years away. There’s no football for him this fall and no backup route into the league next season. He’s already auditioning as a 2027 prospect, and that might mean taking a year off from the game entirely.

It’s not a bad strategy. Some NFL teams might actually respect that more than another round of legal threats and press releases. (They’ve seen enough of those.) Sorsby is 21. If he keeps his head down, works out quietly, and lets the noise fade, he could still get a shot. But if the adults around him keep talking, the window might close before it ever really opens.
