NBA insider Sam Amick went on The Sports Leader show and basically admitted the rumor mill is running on fumes. According to Amick, the Miami Heat think LeBron is headed back to Cleveland. The Cavaliers think it’s Miami. And the Golden State Warriors, who were seen as a possible destination, are suddenly sounding pessimistic about their chances.
“I’ve had Miami tell me it’s Cleveland. I’ve had Cleveland tell me it’s Miami. And the Warriors have seemingly had a lot of pessimism recently,” Amick said.
That’s not exactly a crystal-clear picture.
LeBron Headed East?
ESPN’s Marc Spears added another layer of fog. He reported that the Warriors internally believe they’re a dark horse at this point. The vibe from Golden State is that LeBron is probably going back to the Eastern Conference.
“I’m hearing today that the Warriors internally feel like they’re a dark horse at this point. That LeBron James is probably going out East,” Spears said.
That tracks with what a lot of league insiders have been whispering. If LeBron goes East, that shrinks the pool of suitors considerably. The Timberwolves and Warriors, for example, would be out of the running entirely.

Jake Fischer did some digging during Summer League in Las Vegas, and he came away with one dominant theory: most people around the league think LeBron is going back to where it all started.
“The last couple of days in Las Vegas, definitely from talking to people from Golden State, talking to people around the Sixers. We’re talking to head coach Chris Finch with the Timberwolves, who was on our show, with me and Marc Stein, who openly made his recruiting pitch to LeBron,” Fischer said. “All these teams that are in the mix, they do think that LeBron is most likely to go back to where it all started in Cleveland. That is what other teams that are in on LeBron believe is his most likely outcome. But that’s just perception. What will become reality, we’re all waiting to find out here.”
