Michigan’s recruiting run is showing no signs of slowing down. After locking up a four-star cornerback in Blake Jenkins a few days ago, the Wolverines have added another blue-chip talent to the 2025 class.
Ifeanyi Emedobi, a four-star edge rusher, announced his commitment to Michigan on Monday. He picked the Wolverines over Minnesota and Penn State, per Hayes Fawcett of Rivals. That’s a notable win for Sherrone Moore’s staff, especially considering how late they entered the picture.
Emedobi originally planned to visit Ann Arbor on June 19. But he moved that visit up to June 12, and the early look clearly worked in Michigan’s favor. The Wolverines were one of the last schools to offer him, but they made up for lost time fast.
“They came pretty late, but they made up for it by showing a lot of love as well, like showing a lot of interest,” Emedobi told Allen Trieu of The Detroit News.
Emedobi said Ann Arbor checked everything he was looking for. He pointed specifically to the family atmosphere and the development track record. That last part is interesting because he mentioned defensive line coach Kyle Whittingham’s past work at Utah, where he turned three-star recruits into NFL-caliber players.
“I definitely feel like Michigan checked the boxes that I wanted to be checked,” Emedobi said. “It had the family atmosphere, it had the development piece with Coach (Kyle) Whittingham being at Utah and turning three stars into good players.”
His father, Sam Emedobi, played college football at Eastern Michigan as part of the 2006 class. He also said Michigan handled the process right.
“I love that they’ve made them a priority by how many times they came to the school,” Sam Emedobi said. “I love the communication with all the coaches that have been communicating with him. It hasn’t just been one coach, but several coaches that have been communicating with him. I want to make sure that he’s developed. It’s pretty much development. I want to be able to see that they can develop him into being the star that I know he is.”
Michigan now has 17 commitments in the 2025 class, with 11 of those classified as blue-chip recruits. That puts them at No. 13 nationally and fourth in the Big Ten, according to 247Sports. The Wolverines are still chasing Ohio State, Oregon, and USC at the top of the conference standings, but they’re stacking talent in a way that should keep them competitive in the post-Harbaugh era.
Emedobi is listed at 6-foot-5 and around 240 pounds. He plays at Lincoln-Way East in Illinois, a program that consistently puts out high-level Power Four prospects. Expect him to factor into Michigan’s edge rotation after a year or two of development in that room.
