The Miami Marlins just swept the San Francisco Giants over the weekend. It was a three-game series where Miami looked like the team nobody wants to face right now. And here’s the part that might catch you off guard: the Marlins are now tied for the most home wins in all of Major League Baseball.
That’s right. Twenty-six wins at loanDepot park. The club has won eight straight there. Marlins reporter Kevin Barral pointed out on X that Miami is dead even with the league lead in home victories. That’s not something you’d expect from a team that started the season digging out of a hole in the NL East.
Sunday’s win was a tight 2-1 game. Starter Ryan Gusto struck out six guys and worked into the fifth inning. It wasn’t flashy, but it was effective. That’s kind of been the story for the Marlins lately.
According to MLB.com, this is the deepest into a season Miami has been above .500 since 2023, when they grabbed a National League Wild Card spot. That same season was the last time they won at least 14 games in an 18-game stretch. They’re doing it again in June, going 14-4 with eight straight home victories.
The Marlins are sitting at 40-38. That’s not just a nice record, it keeps them in striking distance in a division that’s a meat grinder. Atlanta is still leading the pack. Philadelphia has bounced back from a rough start. And right now, Miami is tied for third with the Washington Nationals. Every win matters.
But there’s a real problem coming. Slugger Liam Hicks is headed to the injured list. He leads the team in home runs and RBIs. Losing that kind of production in the middle of a hot streak is rough. The Marlins will need someone else to step up and fill that gap. No guarantees there.
Miami starts a series with the Texas Rangers on Monday. We’ll see if they can keep this momentum going without their biggest bat.
