Manchester United Reportedly Willing to Splash Over $100 Million for Real Madrid’s Tchouaméni

Manchester United’s front office is apparently ready to open the checkbook in a serious way for Real Madrid midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni. According to a report from Diario AS, the club’s directors have identified the French international as a priority target and are prepared to put a lot of money on the table to get him.

How much money? We’re talking in the neighborhood of €100 million, which works out to over $108 million at current exchange rates. That’s the figure Real Madrid has reportedly set as the baseline for even considering a sale. Florentino Pérez and company haven’t completely ruled out letting Tchouaméni go, but they’re not going to do it for cheap.

Here’s the thing though. Tchouaméni himself isn’t looking to leave. The 26-year-old is still locked in on his Blancos adventure and wants to keep going in Madrid for the foreseeable future. He’s not agitating for a move or pushing for a transfer. So United would need to do some serious convincing — both with the player and with the club.

United’s interest isn’t exactly new. They’ve been tracking Tchouaméni for a while, and with the midfield needing some reinforcements, he fits the profile of what they’re looking for. A physical presence, good on the ball, reads the game well. He’s the kind of player who could slot into that holding midfield role and anchor things for years.

But here’s where it gets complicated. Real Madrid don’t really need to sell. They’re not in a financial pinch. And Tchouaméni is still under contract through 2028. So unless United come in with a truly massive offer — like, silly money — it’s hard to see Madrid budging. And even then, they’d have to convince the player to walk away from a club where he’s settled and competing for trophies.

One thing worth noting: Tchouaméni’s role under Carlo Ancelotti has been a bit inconsistent at times. He’s started big games but also found himself on the bench for some key matches. That might be something United could point to in their pitch. If you want to be the guy, the undisputed starter every week, come to Old Trafford. But that’s a hard sell when you’re comparing Manchester United’s current trajectory to Real Madrid’s.

For now, this is all speculation. The transfer window is open and United are clearly in the market for a midfielder. Whether they actually land Tchouaméni or end up going in a different direction remains to be seen. But the fact that they’re reportedly ready to drop nine figures on one player tells you how serious they are about closing the gap at the top of the Premier League.
