LeBron James to the Warriors? One NBA Insider Says Don’t Bet Against It.

If you thought the Golden State Warriors were done chasing big moves, think again. The latest rumor mill has the Dubs eyeing a lineup that would make even casual fans do a double take: Stephen Curry, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Draymond Green all in the same uniform. It’s a quartet that screams 2020, not 2026, but that’s not stopping the chatter.

The Warriors have been open about wanting to squeeze every last productive drop out of Curry’s remaining years. He turned 38 this past March. And while the team’s grand plan sounds like a fever dream for basketball romantics, the reality of pulling it off is a lot messier. Kristaps Porzingis just re-signed with the Celtics on a two-year, $40 million deal, and that move alone made it tougher for Golden State to offer LeBron the kind of sweetheart contract exception they might have dangled.

But here’s where it gets interesting. Yahoo Sports’ Kevin O’Connor went on FS1’s “First Things First” and basically said: don’t be surprised if this actually happens. O’Connor pointed to all the times James has publicly praised Curry over the years. The guy’s been a fan from afar for a while now.

“He has always talked about wanting to play with Stephen Curry… At this point, I’d be a little surprised if we don’t get at least LeBron to the Warriors,” O’Connor said.

Look, James will be 42 in December. That’s not exactly a spring chicken by NBA standards. And pairing two older superstars — Curry’s no kid either — carries obvious risks. But the Warriors have made it clear they’re not interested in a slow rebuild. They want to go out swinging while Curry can still stroke it from 30 feet.

Of course, LeBron’s life in Los Angeles seems pretty settled. He’s got a gig playing alongside a prime Luka Doncic with the Lakers. That’s a pretty good setup for a guy who can still drop 25 points on any given night. Re-signing with LA makes sense on almost every level.

Then again, weirder stuff has happened in the NBA. If Golden State could somehow swing a trade for Anthony Davis — LeBron’s old running buddy in L.A. — maybe, just maybe, they could make this thing work. O’Connor didn’t rule it out, and for a league that traded for Russell Westbrook twice in three years, nothing sounds completely impossible.
