LaMelo Ball’s New PUMA MB.06 ‘Puerto Rico’ Hits Shelves This Week — But Only on the Island

LaMelo Ball just dropped the sixth shoe in his signature PUMA line, and it’s not messing around with a slow rollout. The MB.06 “Puerto Rico” colorway is dropping exclusively on the island starting July 31, with a wider global release not expected until September. That’s a pretty bold move for a guy who just got traded to the Timberwolves and is essentially restarting his career narrative in Minnesota.

The Shoe Is Way More Subtle Than You’d Expect

Compared to the earlier MB models, this one’s almost understated. Low-top silhouette. Mesh upper with reinforced midfoot and heel paneling. Cleaner lines overall. The tongue has Ball’s personal logos and a Puerto Rico flag stitched right into it. The blue gradient outsole is supposed to reference the adoquines — those blue cobblestones in Old San Juan. There’s red hit throughout too, plus the usual LaMelo insignias: “ONE OF ONE,” “NOT FROM HERE,” and “RARE.”

Retail is around $140. Not cheap, but not insane for a signature sneaker with this kind of regional exclusivity.

Why Puerto Rico First?

Ball has a legit fanbase there. It’s not a marketing gimmick. The guy has been repping the flag and the culture for years. And PUMA has been smart about leaning into regional drops with their basketball line — they did something similar with a Scoot Henderson release in Portland last year. But locking the MB.06 debut to Puerto Rico only for the first few weeks? That’s a flex. Fans on the mainland are going to have to either know somebody or wait until fall.

The timing is interesting too. Ball just got dealt to Minnesota alongside Anthony Edwards, and suddenly the Timberwolves have two of the most marketable young guards in the league. Ball’s been with PUMA since 2020, right before he went third overall to Charlotte. He spent six seasons with the Hornets and dropped five shoes with the brand. Now he’s in a new city, new conference, new everything — and the first thing he does is drop a Puerto Rico exclusive. That tells you where his head’s at.

According to reports, the shoe will only be available at select retailers on the island starting Friday. No online release yet for the mainland. No word on whether they’ll do a wider drop before September. PUMA hasn’t confirmed anything beyond that.

Fans on social media are already calling it the cleanest MB yet. Some are saying it’s the first time Ball’s line has looked this mature — less gimmicky, more wearable. But the real test will be whether people actually pay $140 for a shoe they can’t get for another two months unless they fly to San Juan.
