LaMelo Ball Names His Top 5 Point Guards and It’s Exactly What You’d Expect

Minnesota Timberwolves PR staff might want to stock up on antacids. With LaMelo Ball and Anthony Edwards sharing a locker room for the next 82 games, the quote machine is about to run nonstop.

Ball appeared on his dad’s show this week and got asked to name his top five point guards of all time. His response? Classic LaMelo.

“Steph Curry, Kyrie (Irving), Magic (Johnson). Same people they said. I don’t really care, bro,” Ball said, pointing at his brothers Lonzo and LiAngelo, who had answered the same question moments earlier.

Lonzo went with Magic Johnson, Steph Curry, Derrick Rose, Penny Hardaway, and Isiah Thomas. LiAngelo picked Johnson, Kyrie Irving, Curry, LaMelo himself, and Rose. For the record, LaMelo only named three guys before shrugging off the rest.

Ball’s Blunt Honesty Is Part of the Appeal

It’s not like Ball was trying to be controversial. He just didn’t overthink it. That’s kind of his thing. And it’s why the Timberwolves are going to be appointment viewing next season, even beyond the obvious talent.

The 24-year-old point guard is coming off one of his better years, averaging 20.1 points, 7.1 assists, and 4.8 rebounds across 72 games for Charlotte. That’s the second-most games he’s played in a season. He helped the Hornets to their best record in a decade before the offseason trade that sent him and Josh Green to Minnesota in exchange for Naz Reid and draft picks.

The Timberwolves now have two of the most unfiltered personalities in the league. Edwards already treats press conferences like open mic night. Ball treats interviews like he’s bored at the DMV. Put them on the floor together and you get highlight dunks, step-back threes, and quotes that’ll go viral before the fourth quarter ends.

The Brothers Debate Is a Bonus

The whole segment on Lavar’s show was basically a family roast session with a basketball poll thrown in. Lonzo and LiAngelo clearly put some thought into their lists. LaMelo treated it like a pop quiz he didn’t study for and still got a B-minus. That’s the Ball way.

Whether or not you agree with his picks — or the fact that he barely made any — one thing is hard to argue: LaMelo Ball makes everything a little more entertaining. And in Minnesota, that’s exactly what the Wolves need next to Edwards’ rising star.
