Knicks Throw an Offer Sheet at Mavs Big Man and the Clock Is Ticking

The New York Knicks lost Mitchell Robinson to the Celtics this offseason. That stung. But they’ve been working the phone lines ever since, and now they’ve got a restricted free agent from Dallas in their sights.

According to Shams Charania of ESPN, the Knicks have signed Moussa Cisse to an offer sheet. The deal is a two-year contract with only the first year guaranteed. The Mavericks have 48 hours to match it or let him walk.

Cisse went undrafted in 2025 and spent last season on a two-way deal with Dallas. He played 38 games for the Mavs, averaging 4.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in a little over 13 minutes a night. He shot 57.4 percent from the floor. Not flashy numbers, but for a young big man on a two-way, that’s a decent foundation.

His G League work with the Texas Legends was louder. In 16 games, he put up 14.8 points and 13.2 rebounds while shooting 64.1 percent. He also blocked 2.2 shots per game. That’s the kind of production that gets a front office’s attention.

Here’s the tricky part for Dallas. The Mavs currently have a full 15-man roster and all three two-way slots filled. If they want to keep Cisse, they’d have to cut someone or make a trade. That’s not impossible, but it’s a hassle they might not want to deal with for a guy who spent most of his rookie season splitting time between the NBA and the G League.

For the Knicks, this is part of a bigger reshuffling in the frontcourt. They already signed veteran center Andre Drummond earlier in the offseason. That gives them some size and experience off the bench. But they also lost Ariel Hukporti, who signed with the 76ers as a free agent. So the depth chart behind Karl-Anthony Towns and Drummond is still being written.

Cisse is 22. He’s long, he’s active, and he blocks shots. The Knicks are betting that his game translates to a bigger role with a little more opportunity. The Mavs have two days to decide whether they agree.
