JJ Watt has never been one to hold back. So when the topic of Aaron Donald possibly rejoining the Los Angeles Rams came up, the future Hall of Famer didn’t mince words.
Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, Watt was asked about the idea of Donald lining up next to Myles Garrett. The thought alone seemed to excite him.
“Aaron Donald is one of the greatest players in the history of the game,” Watt said. “What are you gonna do if him and Myles Garrett are on the same field together? I can completely understand why he would be considering playing.”
And honestly? He’s not wrong. If both guys stay healthy, opposing quarterbacks might want to start investing in better insurance policies.
The Rams haven’t confirmed anything about Donald’s return. But the rumor alone has fans and analysts dreaming about a defensive front that could wreck games by itself. Garrett is already a nightmare. Put Donald next to him and you’re looking at double-teams that don’t matter.
Rams defense might already be scary
Even without Donald back in the mix, the Rams defense has reasons to feel confident. Safety Kam Curl didn’t exactly downplay expectations during a recent interview on Up & Adams.
“Right now it’s early. It’s only what, June, but I feel like we’ve got a chance to be legendary,” Curl said. “Just the type of guys we got, the coaches we got, we’ve got a bunch of experience back there. We’ve got some Super Bowl winners in there, we’ve got some Defensive Player of the Years. We’ve got some guys that, if we do what we’ve got to do, we can be one of the best.”
Bold talk for June. But it’s not like Curl is wrong. The Rams have pieces. They’ve got veterans who have been there. They’ve got young guys who are hungry. And they’ve got a coaching staff that knows how to scheme.
Head coach Sean McVay isn’t letting the hype train run wild, though. When asked about Curl’s comments, McVay kept it grounded.
“It’s one day at a time and I love everything that he said because I couldn’t be more in agreement,” McVay said. “We’re not going to let the outside narratives affect our ability to be courageous every single day and go swing and see what the hell happens.”
That’s coachspeak for: We like the confidence, but let’s go prove it.
The Rams are shaping up to be interesting in 2026. But yeah, it’s still June. A lot of things can change between now and September. Including whether Donald actually comes back.
If he does? Good luck, rest of the NFC.
