Jameis Winston Refused to Chant “E-A-G-L-E-S” on World Cup Broadcast and Giants Fans Loved It

Jameis Winston hasn’t thrown a single pass for the New York Giants in a game that counts. But he already understands the assignment.

While appearing as a guest on Fox’s coverage of the 2026 World Cup, the veteran quarterback was put on the spot. The broadcast asked him to join in on the Philadelphia Eagles’ signature chant. You know the one. The loud, obnoxious, crowd-pumping “E-A-G-L-E-S” thing that echoes through Lincoln Financial Field on fall Sundays.

Winston didn’t hesitate. He also didn’t comply.

“There is no more obnoxious fan than E-A-G-L-E-S,” Winston said with a laugh on air. “I’m not gonna say (Eagles!) because it’s obnoxious.”

The clip hit social media fast. Giants fans, still buzzing from an offseason of change, ate it up. The Giants and Eagles have one of the NFL’s nastiest rivalries. It’s not just division hate. It’s personal. So watching a backup quarterback with zero game reps in blue publicly clown the Eagles’ whole gameday vibe? That plays in New York.

Of course it was all in good fun. Winston wasn’t starting a war. He was just being himself, which is usually entertaining and occasionally unpredictable. But for a fan base that’s been through the wringer lately, the moment felt like a signal. This guy gets it.

And that’s not nothing.

A New Look Giants Team Is Taking Shape

The Giants have been busy. Like, really busy. They hired John Harbaugh away from Baltimore to be their new head coach. They traded star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence to the Bengals. They spent high draft picks on linebacker Arvell Reese and offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa. And they added veterans, including Winston, to fill out the roster.

The whole vibe around the team has shifted. There’s a physical edge to the moves General Manager Joe Schoen and Harbaugh have made. The hope is that the Giants can stop being pushed around in the trenches and start doing some pushing of their own.

Winston’s role is still backup. He’s behind whoever wins the starting job. But his personality is already a factor. A quarterback room with a guy who won’t even fake an Eagles chant for a camera? That sets a tone. It might seem small, but in a division where rivalries define seasons, having a quarterback who genuinely hates the other team matters.

Training camp opens in a few weeks. The Giants and Eagles will meet twice this season. And the fans who saw that World Cup clip will remember it. Winston made sure of that.
