Isaiah Adams Back at Practice After Gun Charges. His Coach Kept It Brief.

Arizona Cardinals offensive lineman Isaiah Adams was back on the practice field Thursday for the first day of training camp. That’s notable because just days earlier, he turned himself in to Canadian police on four firearm charges.

Offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur was asked about Adams after practice and didn’t exactly dive into the details. “He’s doing good,” LaFleur said. That was it. Short and to the point.

Adams, 25, surrendered to Durham Regional Police on July 19. He’s facing charges that include possession of a weapon by crime, possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm without a license, possession of a loaded firearm, and possession of a prohibited device. Those came out of a Guns and Gangs investigation that led to four arrests total. His sister, 27-year-old Allyson Mae Adams, is charged with the same four counts. Two other people were arrested in connection with fentanyl trafficking.

Adams’ attorney, Adam Weisberg, has been clear about where they stand. “Isaiah is completely innocent in this matter,” Weisberg said. “He had no knowledge of any firearm, and he will be fully exonerated.”

The Cardinals have mostly stayed quiet on it. Their official statement said they’re aware of the situation but are choosing not to comment further out of respect for the legal process.

Inside the locker room, teammates followed the same script. Center Hjalte Froholdt basically shrugged it off when asked. “I’m just happy Isaiah is here now,” Froholdt said. “Those questions, ask Mike about it. I’m not going to speak for him.”

What This Means for the Depth Chart

Football-wise, this matters. Adams was a third-round pick out of Illinois in 2024 and has started 16 games over his first two seasons, including 11 last year. He came into camp as the projected starter at right guard.

But Chase Bisontis is expected to push him for that job. So the first-team reps Adams took Thursday — right there with the starters — carry a little extra weight. Arizona opens the preseason against the Carolina Panthers in the Hall of Fame Game on August 6.

For now, Adams is back. He’s practicing. And the Cardinals are leaving everything else to the courts.
