Giants Hit PUP List Hard Right Before Camp. Here’s Who’s Out and Why It Matters.

The New York Giants made some roster moves Thursday that aren’t exactly the kind of headlines you want three days before camp opens. Three players landed on the active/physically unable to perform list: tight end Thomas Fidone II, defensive linemen Sam Roberts and Roy Robertson-Harris.

What does that actually mean for these guys? They can still go to meetings, hang around the facility, and do individual work. But they can’t practice until they get medical clearance. The Giants can pull them off the list at any point during camp. So it’s not season-ending stuff. But it’s not nothing either.

Fidone’s foot still isn’t right

Fidone had a foot injury that wiped out most of his rookie year. He had a cleanup procedure in June after the thing kept bugging him through the spring. He was already limited during OTAs, so this isn’t a shock. But the Giants have a pretty crowded tight end room right now. Isaiah Likely, Theo Johnson, and Chris Manhertz are all ahead of him on the depth chart. Fidone needs live reps to make a case for himself and he’s not getting them yet.

Two d-linemen out. That’s a problem.

Roberts missed spring practices after surgery. He came over from the Falcons after an injury-riddled 2025 season. The guy can’t seem to catch a break. Robertson-Harris tore his Achilles during an OTA session in May. That’s a brutal injury. Putting him on PUP preserves some flexibility for the Giants — they can bring him back late in the season if he heals fast enough, instead of just shutting him down now.

The timing isn’t great for the d-line. Roberts and Robertson-Harris were supposed to be interior depth for John Harbaugh’s first camp as head coach. Losing both of them right now means more snaps for guys who might not have been ready for that.

Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News posted the update on X before the team left for The Greenbrier in West Virginia.

Notably missing from the PUP list: Malik Nabers. The wide receiver had knee surgery but the Giants are managing his workload without the designation. He’ll be eased in but technically active, which gives them more flexibility.

Veterans report to The Greenbrier Resort on July 28. First public practice is July 30. The Giants will have to start camp without three guys they were counting on for depth. Not a crisis. But not ideal either.
