Geno Smith is having one of those offseasons where he keeps running into police. And not in a good way.
The New York Jets quarterback was pulled over in Davie, Florida on July 6 for allegedly driving 70 mph in a 45 mph zone. According to the New York Post, Smith was behind the wheel of a 2025 silver Aston Martin that he said belonged to a friend. The officer reportedly complimented the car — called it “beautiful” — but followed that up by pointing out that 70 is too fast for a 45.
Smith told the cop he didn’t have his driver’s license on him. He was near his house, so the officer took down his info and told him he needs to carry a physical ID at all times. Smith’s response? “My bad.” He left with two citations: one for speeding, one for driving without a license on him.

This is the third police contact for Smith since April
Back in April, he was pulled over for driving a Rolls-Royce with what police said were improper tags. Then in June, officers showed up at his home after a woman accused him of beating her during an argument. That case was initially closed, then reopened, and the investigation is still going.
Smith is getting ready for his first season back with the Jets, the team that drafted him in the second round back in 2013 out of West Virginia. He spent four years with Gang Green before bouncing around to the Giants, Chargers, Seahawks, and Raiders. Now he’s back in New York.
His 2025 season was rough. He led the NFL in interceptions with 17, and he only played 15 games. The Jets are hoping for better this time around, but all these off-field distractions aren’t helping anyone feel more confident.
