OG Anunoby is having the kind of offseason that most NBA players only dream about. First, he helped the New York Knicks end a 53-year championship drought. Then, a prominent ESPN voice suggested the city should build not one, but two statues in his honor. And now? He’s getting his own signature shoe.
According to a report from Sole Retriever’s Nicholas Vlahos, the 28-year-old forward is set to receive his first signature sneaker from Skechers. The company hasn’t released details yet, but Skechers president Michael Greenberg confirmed the news in a statement.
“OG embodies the spirit of not only Skechers Performance, but the entire philosophy of Skechers as the comfort technology company,” Greenberg said. “It’s too early to share specific details, but we do have a signature shoe in the works.”
Anunoby signed with Skechers back in July, and his postseason play made the deal look like a steal. During the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs, he averaged 21.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.4 steals, and 1.4 blocks. More importantly, he shot 52.5% from the field and a blistering 50.0% from three-point range.
His defining moment came in Game 4. The Knicks trailed by 29 points, a seemingly insurmountable deficit in a closeout game. Then Anunoby delivered a critical block on De’Aaron Fox and followed it up with a game-winning putback. The play instantly etched his name into New York sports history. He was wearing a Knicks-themed Skechers player exclusive for the occasion.
Anunoby already had a championship ring from his time with the Toronto Raptors in 2019, but this run felt different. He wore several different Skechers PEs throughout the playoffs, and fans online noted how the gear seemed to match the gravity of each series. The company clearly saw an opportunity.
He’ll become the second NBA player to get his own signature shoe with Skechers, following Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid. That puts Anunoby in rare company for a player who, until this spring, was better known as a lockdown defender than a sneakerhead icon.
The Knicks’ title run changed the narrative, though. New York is buzzing, casual fans are paying attention, and Skechers is betting that Anunoby’s brand will only grow from here. The team has not confirmed any release timeline, but the sneaker world is already watching.
