Francisco Lindor Finally Looks Like Himself and the Mets Needed Every Bit of It

The New York Mets came out of the All-Star break with something they haven’t had much of this season — a series win. And it happened largely because Francisco Lindor looked like the guy they pay all that money to.

Sunday’s 3-for-3 performance against the Phillies wasn’t just a good game. It was the kind of game the Mets have been waiting for all year. Lindor crushed a two-run homer in the second inning to put New York ahead early. He added a double, another RBI, and drew two walks. For a guy who’s spent chunks of this season on the injured list, it felt like a reminder of what he can be when healthy.

“He was awesome today,” interim manager Andy Green said. “He was Francisco Lindor. That’s who we want him to be.”

It was Lindor’s first three-hit game of the 2026 season. That alone tells you how much the year has gone sideways for him and the team. Injuries have limited his time on the field and probably kept him from finding any real rhythm. But Sunday felt different.

“It felt good to contribute,” Lindor said. “It felt good to be part of the team and help the team win. Overall, a good day for me. Learn from it and turn the page and focus on who we have tomorrow.”

The Mets took the series from Philadelphia, which isn’t nothing. Philly’s a good team, and winning three games against them coming out of the break gives New York something to build on. But let’s be real — this team is still digging out of a hole. They’re under .500. The division isn’t getting easier. And they need more than one good series to change the narrative.

That said, having your star shortstop play like a star matters. Lindor sets the tone in the clubhouse and at the top of the order. When he’s producing, everyone else can breathe a little easier. The pitching staff gets a cushion. The lineup looks deeper. It’s a ripple effect that goes beyond the box score.

New York heads to Milwaukee now for a three-game set starting Monday. The Brewers are tough at home, so this road trip will test whether the Mets can sustain anything. But for one Sunday at least, Lindor gave them a glimpse of what they’d been missing.
