Mia Bieniemy, the wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, was shot Sunday night at the couple’s home in Ashburn, Virginia. She’s 57 years old and was taken to a hospital afterward, though her condition hasn’t been released yet.
Police in Loudoun County confirmed someone was being treated for “serious injuries” but wouldn’t say who. That detail came from ESPN’s Nate Taylor, who first reported the shooting.
Eric Bieniemy wasn’t home at the time. He was in Missouri with the Chiefs, who just kicked off training camp at Missouri Western State University. The team put out a statement acknowledging they know about the incident but said they had no further comment right now.
This isn’t the first off-field tragedy to hit a Chiefs coach’s family in recent years. In 2021, defensive assistant coach Britt Reid — Andy Reid’s son — was involved in a serious car crash that left a young girl with brain injuries. That case led to a prison sentence for Reid. But this situation is completely different. Still, it’s another heavy moment for a coaching staff that’s been through a lot lately.
The Bieniemys have been married for years, and Mia has mostly stayed out of the public eye. Eric Bieniemy has been one of the most talked-about assistant coaches in the NFL for a while now, getting head coaching interviews with multiple teams but never landing the top job. He’s been with the Chiefs since 2018 and helped turn their offense into a Super Bowl-winning machine. This shooting adds a personal layer of stress to what’s already a high-pressure professional life.
Loudoun County police are investigating. No word yet on whether anyone’s been arrested or if they have a suspect. More details will come out as the investigation moves forward.
We’ll update this story as new information comes in.
