Edmonton Oilers Lock In Goalie Prospect Connor Ungar on a One-Year Deal

The Edmonton Oilers signed goaltender Connor Ungar to a one-year, two-way contract Thursday, keeping the 24-year-old in their pipeline for the 2026-27 season. The deal carries an AAV of $850,000. Ungar, who stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 205 pounds, spent last season bouncing around four different affiliates — and put up numbers that made the Oilers pay attention.

Ungar’s Busy 2025-26 Season

He split time between the ECHL and AHL, and honestly, his stats are a little eye-popping. In Greensboro he went 2-1-1 with a 1.42 GAA and a .945 save percentage, including a shutout. At Fort Wayne it was two starts, two wins, a 1.44 GAA and .944 save percentage. With Orlando he played 19 games (7-8-3, 2.66 GAA, .913 SV%) and threw up a 37-save shutout in his debut. Then at Bakersfield in the AHL, Ungar made 13 starts and went 9-2-2 with a 2.51 GAA and .923 SV%. He won his first six AHL starts and added a 25-save shutout against Ontario.

From Brock University to Pro Hockey

Before all that, Ungar started his pro career with Fort Wayne in the ECHL, posting a 19-12-4 record in 35 games with a 2.74 GAA and .903 save percentage plus three shutouts. He came up through the WHL with Moose Jaw, Red Deer, and Brandon. In his final junior season (2022-23) he went 26-7-0 with a 2.58 GAA and .925 save percentage for Moose Jaw, taking them to the conference semifinals. He also spent a year at Brock University and won rookie of the year and goaltender of the year honors there.

The Oilers’ goaltending depth chart also includes Samuel Jonsson (who made his North American debut with Fort Wayne), 21-year-old Nathaniel Day after a full pro season with the Komets, and European prospects Eemil Vinni (playing in Finland’s Mestis) and Daniel Salonen in the Liiga. But Ungar’s 9-2-2 run in Bakersfield positions him for a bigger role with the Condors next season.
