Ederson just about confirmed what everyone already suspected. The Atalanta midfielder told Sky Sport that his transfer to Manchester United is basically done, calling it “practically almost all sorted.” Only the signature remains. That’s it.
He said this while currently in Brazil’s World Cup camp. So the deal is real and it’s happening. Just not until after the tournament.
“I have to make the most of this moment,” Ederson said. “I am here and it is a wonderful thing, something you must always live to the fullest.”
He started Brazil’s opener against Morocco on the bench. Got some minutes in the win over Haiti though. That’s about where his head is at — focused on the national team while a huge club move waits for him back in Europe.
The Numbers and the Backstory
Manchester United is paying around €45 million for the 26-year-old. That’s a massive return for Atalanta, who bought him from Salernitana for way less. Another Bergamo special — buy low, develop, sell high. They’ve made a business out of it.
Ederson has been one of Serie A’s best midfielders for four seasons now. Not flashy in a highlight-reel way but consistent and physical. He’s at his peak, and United is getting a guy who can slot right into the midfield and handle the Premier League’s pace. Shouldn’t be an issue.
Formal completion is expected once Brazil’s World Cup run wraps up. Whenever that is. If Brazil go deep, United waits longer. If they go home early, Ederson’s in Manchester sooner. Either way, the paperwork is sitting there ready to go.
Atalanta will pocket the fee and probably already have a replacement lined up. That’s how they operate. United gets a midfielder who actually wants to be there. And Ederson gets to finally play in England. Everybody wins.
