Draymond Green and LeBron James were recently seen together in Puerto Rico, playing golf and generally looking like two guys who might actually be plotting something. And it turns out, they were.
Green, never one to let a good recruiting opportunity slip by, admitted on his podcast that he did indeed pitch James on joining the Golden State Warriors. The conversation happened during their vacation, and Green didn’t exactly keep it subtle.
“You know, I’d be crazy if we’re together for X amount of days, and at no point if I’m like ‘yo, we need to chop it up. Like what the hell is going on. What are we doing?’” Green said. “Of course I did that. Of course the pitch was crazy.”
The pitch was designed to make James think
Green didn’t just casually mention the idea over a round of golf. He went in. He described it as a full, detailed recruiting pitch — one that he believes could actually affect James’s thinking, even if no decision has been made yet.
“Since I think I’m pretty decent at it, doesn’t change anything. Doesn’t make anything happen,” Green said. “With the things I shared in it, I believe it’s definitely going to make the brain work a little bit. I don’t think there’s a decision that’s been made but say if there was, it’ll make you think twice about it.”
LeBron James is still a free agent
James shocked the league by declining his player option with the Los Angeles Lakers and opting for free agency. A number of teams have reportedly reached out, with the Warriors being among the most intriguing suitors. Pairing James with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Green would be a nightmare for the rest of the league — and Green is clearly trying to make that vision a reality.
The NBA has seen its share of superteams before. But James and Curry on the same roster? That’s a different kind of conversation. And Green, ever the instigator, seems to be quietly working the angles behind the scenes while everyone else waits for an official announcement.
Whether this actually leads anywhere is another story. But Green’s own account makes it clear: he brought his A-game to that pitch, and he’s not backing down from it.
