It started with a video of Giannis Antetokounmpo training in Greece this summer, working out alongside new Heat teammate Davion Mitchell. A Miami fan named Major Passons quote-tweeted the clip with a jab aimed straight at Lillard. “Davion doing what Dame wouldn’t even do,” he wrote.
The implication was obvious. Lillard and Antetokounmpo never linked up for offseason work last year, and that became a talking point when the Bucks stumbled early in the 2024-25 season. Now with Giannis in Miami and Lillard back in Portland, the narrative resurfaced. But Lillard wasn’t about to just take it.

What Is Lillard Hinting At?
It’s the kind of vague threat that drives fans crazy because it could mean anything. But context helps. Back in May, Pacers center Myles Turner called out Antetokounmpo and other Bucks for showing up late to team activities regularly last season. Milwaukee then dealt Lillard to clear space for Turner in a move that hasn’t exactly paid off yet.
So yeah, Lillard might be referencing that. Or he could be hinting at something else entirely. The guy made seven All-NBA teams. He’s not going to spill anything that burns bridges he doesn’t want burned. But he’s also not going to sit quiet while someone frames him as the reason Milwaukee’s superteam experiment failed.
The truth is messier than one tweet. Giannis requested out. Lillard was traded. The Bucks are now rebuilding. And Miami just landed a two-time MVP who’s hungry for another ring. There’s plenty of blame to go around, and Lillard seems confident he’s not carrying most of it.
What’s interesting here is what Lillard didn’t say. He didn’t deny that he and Giannis didn’t work out together. He didn’t defend his professionalism or his fit in Milwaukee. Instead he went straight to the implication that he could drag other people into it if he wanted to. That’s a choice.
Giannis hasn’t responded. He’s too busy getting shots up with Mitchell on a Greek summer court, probably aware that training camp is coming fast and his new team has championship expectations immediately.
