Washington Commanders general manager Adam Peters hasn’t slammed the door on outside help at wide receiver. Not even close.
Speaking to the media this week, Peters made it clear the team is still watching the market. According to a post from ESPN’s John Keim, Peters said he’s “really happy who’s in that room” and likes how guys have progressed through the offseason. But then he added the kicker: “If ways to get better we’ll look into that. Assess the decision if it’s the right move. Not afraid to do that.”
That sounds like a GM keeping his options open. And given the names floating around — Brandon Aiyuk and Stefon Diggs — it makes sense why.
Should Washington Actually Trade for a Veteran?
Not everyone thinks it’s a good idea. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, speaking on the Kevin Sheehan Show, pointed out that Washington’s roster is still young. “You don’t want to just get 30-year-old retreads,” Fowler said. He suggested the team’s plans will “crystallize” in the next week, but he also threw out a different name: Keenan Allen.
Fowler acknowledged Tyreek Hill isn’t close to playing right now but will be ready at some point. So there are options beyond the two big names everyone’s talking about.
Right now, the Commanders have Terry McLaurin at WR1. He’s getting up there for a top receiver but still produces. Behind him, rookie Antonio Williams has climbed to the WR2 spot on ESPN’s depth chart, with Luke McCaffrey in the mix too.
Then there’s the second group: Treylon Burks, Dyami Brown, and Jaylin Lane have a real shot to make noise. After that you’ve got Van Jefferson, Jacoby Jones, Nick Nash, Chris Hilton Jr., and undrafted rookie Jaden Bradley fighting for a spot.
The room isn’t awful but it’s not exactly scaring defenses either. That’s probably why Peters isn’t ruling anything out. Whether it’s Aiyuk, Diggs, Allen, or someone else entirely, the Commanders are at least kicking the tires.
