Caitlin Clark’s Blunt Advice to Sophie Cunningham Before Her TV Debut: ‘Be Quieter’

Sophie Cunningham is about to show off a different kind of game. The Indiana Fever sharpshooter made her broadcasting debut for USA Sports on Wednesday, and before she went on air, her teammate Caitlin Clark had some characteristically unfiltered advice.

USA Today posted a video of the Fever locker room offering Cunningham tips ahead of her first TV gig. Most of her teammates kept it positive. Clark, though, took a different approach.

“I hate giving her credit, but she’ll be amazing,” Clark said. Then came the punchline. “You might have to tell her to be a little more quiet, more than anything.”

The shift from court to broadcast

Cunningham took a contributor role with USA Sports back in April, during the WNBA offseason and while free agency and CBA negotiations were dominating headlines. It’s a side hustle that makes sense for a player whose personality has always been bigger than just her jumper.

Her actual debut came Wednesday as part of a doubleheader that included the New York Liberty visiting the Chicago Sky and the Las Vegas Aces playing the Phoenix Mercury, Cunningham’s old team. No word yet on whether she took Clark’s advice to heart, but the clip has already been making the rounds online.

On the floor, Cunningham is playing the best ball of her career

Don’t let the joking distract you. Cunningham is in the middle of a breakout season. She’s averaging 10.1 points per game, more than a full point above last year’s mark, and pulling down 2.7 rebounds. She’s appeared in 13 games with three starts after starting 13 of 30 games in 2025.

The Fever are on a four-game win streak with a 9-5 record, good for third place in the Eastern Conference. Cunningham has been a big part of that run.

This is her second season in Indiana. She was traded from Phoenix as part of a four-team deal before the 2025 season. Last year she put up 8.6 points per game while stepping up during injuries to stars like Clark. But the season ended early when she tore her MCL in a game against the Connecticut Sun on August 17, 2025.

Cunningham’s been healthy this year and it shows. She’s playing with more confidence and a bigger role. And now she’s got a second job in broadcasting. Clark might want her to quiet down. But good luck with that.
