Brandon Aiyuk Says He Fired His Agent Months Ago. That Might Explain a Lot.

Brandon Aiyuk posted another video. This time he dropped a twist that caught a lot of people off guard.

The 49ers wide receiver, who hasn’t played since tearing his ACL during the 2024 season, claimed he hasn’t had an agent since last November. He said he terminated the relationship through the NFLPA back then and has been representing himself ever since.

“Also, I do not have an agent,” Aiyuk said in the clip. “I terminated my SRA with my previous agent through the NFLPA last year in November.”

That lines up with what we’ve seen from him. Most agents would probably tell a client to stop posting daily videos trolling the team you’re still technically under contract with. But Aiyuk has been doing exactly that for weeks, making it pretty clear he wants out and wants to play for Washington.

The NFLPA records don’t fully back him up

Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team checked the official NFLPA records and said they don’t reflect that change. So either Aiyuk’s timeline is off or the paperwork hasn’t caught up. Meirov did say he tends to believe Aiyuk anyway, mostly because the guy keeps posting stuff that no paid advisor would sign off on.

“This would help explain the lack of good advice regarding his recent IG behavior,” Meirov wrote.

It’s not a bad point. If you had an agent telling you to chill out on the Instagram beef, you probably wouldn’t be tagging the 49ers in salt memes every other day.

What’s actually happening with Aiyuk and the 49ers

San Francisco voided the roughly $27 million guaranteed money Aiyuk was owed for the 2026-27 season. He’s still technically on the roster but nobody expects him to play another snap for the team. The expectation around the league is that the 49ers will eventually cut him loose.

The timeline on that is the real mystery. Aiyuk was cleared to return at some point last season but never did. Now he’s healthy and making it clear he wants to be a Commander. The 49ers haven’t said much publicly, which feels like both sides are just waiting for the inevitable.

One thing that stands out: if Aiyuk really is agentless, he’s navigating some pretty high-stakes contract stuff on his own. That’s rare for a player of his caliber, especially one coming off a major injury. It could work out. It could also get messy.

Either way, the videos keep coming.
