The Bradley Beal sweepstakes just added a third suitor with serious playoff credibility. According to multiple reports, the Boston Celtics have entered the conversation alongside the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Clippers as potential landing spots for the veteran guard.
NBA insider Jake Fischer dropped the intel during Bleacher Report’s latest notebook episode. Fischer said Beal’s decision is still very much in flux, but one thing is clear: he’s not circling back to do a victory lap on a lottery team. The guy wants to play for a contender.
“I was told today that Bradley Beal’s decision is not exactly being held up by LeBron, but is being impacted by it,” Fischer said. “I do think there’s some Miami interest there, and I would not rule out Boston for Beal because of the connection with Jayson Tatum.”
The Tatum connection makes Boston interesting
That connection Fischer mentioned is real. Beal and Tatum are close off the court, and playing alongside an MVP-level superstar in Boston could be appealing. The Celtics just shook up their roster in a big way, trading Jaylen Brown to the Sixers for Paul George plus a haul of picks. Suddenly the backcourt rotation looks thinner than it did a week ago. Adding Beal as a scoring punch off the bench — or even as a starter — would give Boston another legitimate perimeter threat who doesn’t need the ball in his hands all the time.
But there are obvious questions. Beal is 33 now and coming off a brutal season. He played only six games before needing season-ending surgery on a fractured left hip. His averages — 8.2 points on 37.5 percent shooting — are basically an afterthought. What matters is what he looked like the year before: 17 points a game for Phoenix on nearly 50 percent shooting from the field and almost 39 percent from three. That version of Beal is still a problem for defenses.
Miami still feels like the natural fit
The Heat have been linked to just about every veteran guard with a pulse this offseason. They’re trying to build something real around Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, and Beal fits the archetype of a guy who can create his own shot when the offense gets stagnant. But ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel threw cold water on the idea that this is a done deal. Beal declined his $5.6 million player option for 2026-27 with the Clippers, which suggests he’s betting on himself — but that doesn’t mean he’s ready to take a minimum from Miami.
“Whether or not Beal, coming off his hip injury, would be willing to take a minimum contract from Miami to join Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo in their championship pursuit is the big question,” Siegel wrote. He added that the Heat might offer part of their mid-level exception, but they’re also kicking tires on other options.
And then there are the Clippers. They’re the familiar option. Beal has been through the organization already, so there’s no learning curve. But if he wanted to be there that badly, he probably wouldn’t have opted out.
Fischer’s reporting makes one thing clear: Beal is taking his time. He’s not rushing into a decision just because the calendar says July. And with Boston suddenly in the mix, this thing might not resolve as quickly as people assumed.
