Bayern and Both Manchester Clubs Are Circling an 18-Year-Old World Cup Standout

If you’ve been watching the World Cup and wondering who the kid in Morocco’s midfield is, you’re not the only one. Europe’s biggest clubs have been asking the same question.

Ayyoub Bouaddi, all of 18 years old, has been one of the breakout players of the tournament so far. He’s not just holding his own in the middle of the park for Morocco. He’s dictating games. And according to French journalist Fabrice Hawkins, that’s caught the attention of Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Manchester City, and Manchester United.

That’s four elite clubs, all watching the same teenager from Lille.

The price tag is eye-popping

Hawkins reports that Lille is asking for somewhere between €80 million and €100 million for Bouaddi. That’s a lot of money for a player who just turned 18 in April. But the World Cup has a way of inflating values fast, and Bouaddi’s performances have been mature beyond his years.

Bayern Munich might have the most complicated math to do here. They’re already planning to drop over €100 million this summer on Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt and PSV’s Ousmane Saibari. Adding another nine-figure fee on top of that? Tough sell, even for a club with Bayern’s resources.

Arsenal could use midfield depth, sure. And Manchester City and United both have the cash. But at that price, everyone’s going to think twice.

Lille wants a loan-back clause

One wrinkle that might make a deal easier: Lille reportedly wants to loan Bouaddi back for another year if they sell him. That way he keeps developing at a club where he’s already comfortable, and the selling club gets to keep his prime developmental year on their own pitch. Smart business, if you’re Lille.

For a buying club, it’s less ideal. You’re spending huge money now for a player you can’t use until next season. But if you believe in the talent, it’s a one-year delay on a long-term investment.

Morocco plays the Netherlands on Tuesday at 3 a.m. Central European Time. Bouaddi will be in the middle of it. And all those scouts will be watching again.
