The Hawks were already busy before the NBA Draft even started. They extended CJ McCollum. They picked up Aaron Wiggins in a deal with Oklahoma City. And now, with two first-round picks in hand, Atlanta might not be done.
According to ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel, the Hawks have fielded offers for both the No. 8 and No. 23 selections. With the draft just a day away, the front office is listening. That doesn’t mean they’ll move both. But it means they’re open.
The Risacher and Kuminga Questions
Zaccharie Risacher, the No. 1 pick in 2024, had a so-so sophomore season. He averaged 9.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 67 games. The shooting splits were 45.5 percent from the floor, 36.8 percent from three and 64.4 percent from the line. Not terrible. Not what you hope for from a top pick in year two.
Jonathan Kuminga, acquired at last season’s trade deadline, played well in the Hawks’ playoff series against New York. But Siegel reports it’s not a given Atlanta sees him as a long-term piece.
Trey Murphy III Could Be in Play
The name that keeps popping up in trade chatter is New Orleans forward Trey Murphy III. The Pelicans have reportedly set a high asking price, and multiple teams are interested. Whether Atlanta is willing to meet that price is unclear. But Murphy fits the profile of a versatile wing who could help now and later.
One league source described the Hawks as “active but not desperate.” They have assets. They have flexibility. And with the draft here, they have options.
It’s worth watching what happens at No. 8. If the right prospect falls, maybe they stay put. If not, don’t be surprised if that pick gets packaged for a more established player.
