The Atlanta Dream finally got back in the win column, snapping a five-game losing streak with an 89-78 home win over the Seattle Storm. But the celebration came with a price. All-Star forward Angel Reese popped up on the team’s injury report ahead of Saturday’s matchup against the Portland Fire, and she’s officially listed as questionable with a left leg injury.
Reese initially hurt the leg during the win over Seattle. Dream reporter Jameelah Johnson noted that trainers attended to her on the bench during the game. The team hasn’t said much else about the severity of the injury or when it happened exactly, but the timing is brutal. Atlanta is already missing starting center Brionna Jones, and they can’t afford to be shorthanded any deeper as they try to build momentum.
In that win against the Storm, Reese still managed to put up 18 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and two steals in 30 minutes. She shot 7-of-15 from the field and went a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. That’s the kind of production that’s made her indispensable for the Dream this season.
A consistent force since day one
The No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, Reese just earned her third straight All-Star nod. She spent her first two seasons with the Chicago Sky before the organization traded her to Atlanta in the offseason. It was a move that raised eyebrows at the time, but Reese has made it look like a steal for the Dream.
She’s appeared in all 22 games this year, averaging a little over 30 minutes per night. Her numbers are steady: 15.0 points, 11.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.6 steals, shooting 41.8 percent from the field and 71.4 percent from three. Those rebounding totals aren’t just good, they’re elite. Since entering the WNBA, Reese has been one of the league’s premier rebounders, consistently posting double-doubles and setting records along the way. She finished second in Rookie of the Year voting in 2024, and she’s only gotten better since.
So now the Dream have to wait and see. If Reese can’t go Saturday, the rotation gets thin fast. Portland isn’t an easy team to face even at full strength, and Atlanta is still trying to find its footing after that long losing streak. They’ll need their star on the floor to keep the run going.
