WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson is giving her sorority what it wants. The Nike A’Two “Pinkies Up” is officially hitting shelves on July 8. And yes, they’re pink and green.
Wilson revealed the new colorway this week. The shoe is a clear nod to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. The design uses the sorority’s signature colors — soft pink and deep green — with a green Swoosh set against a mostly pink upper. It’s the kind of thing AKA members have been asking for since last fall.
That’s when Wilson showed up in a pair of pink-and-green A’Ones that didn’t exist for anyone else. They were one-of-a-kind samples. She wore them during homecoming season and the internet lost it. Fellow members of Alpha Kappa Alpha flooded her mentions asking when they could buy a pair.
One person asked on Threads if the sneakers would ever drop. Wilson’s reply became a minor meme on its own.
“Neveruary Soror they 1 of 1zzz,” she wrote.
That shut down the immediate hope but it didn’t kill the demand. Wilson kept hearing about it. And now she’s answered with an official release of an AKA-inspired silhouette. The name “Pinkies Up” is itself a nod to the sorority’s hand sign. It’s subtle but anyone in the organization catches it immediately.
A Connection That Runs Deep
Wilson joined Alpha Kappa Alpha in 2017 through the Theta Gamma Chapter at the University of South Carolina. She was already a star on the court but the sisterhood connected her to something bigger. The sorority was founded in 1908 at Howard University by nine Black women. Today it claims more than 355,000 members across 12 countries. That list includes politicians, business leaders, entertainers and plenty of other athletes.
Wilson’s ties to AKA have never been a secret. She’s worn the colors before. She’s referenced the sisterhood in interviews. But this sneaker release makes it official in a way that fans can actually buy. That matters because the original A’One sample wasn’t just rare. It was never going to exist at retail. Wilson shut that door pretty clearly last year. Now she’s opened a new one.
Nike has leaned into athlete-driven storytelling with Wilson’s line. The A’Two is her second signature shoe and the “Pinkies Up” colorway is one of the more direct nods to a personal affiliation the brand has released for her. It’s not just a pink shoe with green trim. It’s a message to a community that has embraced her since college.
The sneakers drop July 8. No word yet on whether they’ll sell out instantly but given how loud the demand has been since last fall, don’t expect them to sit on shelves.
