Ruben Amorim really wants to work with his old guys again. The new AC Milan manager has reportedly got his eye on Noussair Mazraoui, making the Manchester United fullback the third Red Devil he’s circled since taking over in Italy.
This one comes from journalist Matteo Moretto, who says Amorim is a big fan of the Moroccan international. Mazraoui’s World Cup performances for Morocco this summer apparently sealed it. But here’s the thing — there are no talks happening right now. No calls between the clubs. Nothing concrete.
“Noussair Mazraoui is one of Amorim’s favourites. As of now there are no negotiations underway, there’s no direct contact between the clubs. But what I can tell you is that certainly Mazraoui, who is 28 years old and also has a contract expiring in 2028 with an option, is a player highly regarded by Amorim. Let’s see if he is targeted by Milan later in the window. As of today, I’m talking about the manager’s approval of him — Amorim appreciates Mazraoui’s qualities,” Moretto said.
So it’s admiration, not a bid. At least for now.
Amorim’s United Reunion Tour Hits a Snag
This isn’t the first time Amorim has tried to bring a former player from Manchester to Milan. He went after Manuel Ugarte first. That made sense — Ugarte played for him at both Sporting CP and United. But those plans fell apart after Ugarte got hurt at the World Cup.
Then Amorim turned to Amad. That one got shut down fast. Michael Carrick, who’s managing elsewhere, made it clear Amad wasn’t going anywhere. And Amad himself apparently had no interest in going back to Italy.
So now it’s Mazraoui’s turn.
The 28-year-old joined United from Bayern Munich back in August 2024. His contract runs through 2028 with a club option for an extra year. That gives INEOS, United’s ownership group, plenty of leverage if Milan ever does come calling.
Why United Might Not Want to Sell
Mazraoui’s value to United goes beyond just being a right back. His World Cup showed he can play left back too, which is a big deal for a team that’s still waiting on Luke Shaw to be fully healthy. Across four competitions this season, having a guy who can cover both sides is useful.
According to reports, the only way Mazraoui actually leaves is if INEOS decides to bring in another fullback first. There’s been some chatter about Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Ryerson, but nothing has happened yet. Until that decision gets made, Mazraoui is staying put and United has no reason to push him out.
So the question now is whether Milan actually tests INEOS with a real offer before the window closes. Amorim’s admiration is clear. Everything else is just waiting.
