Aaron Donald Spotted at Rams Facility and the Buzz Is Real

It’s July. Most of the NFL is on vacation or wrapping up offseason workouts. But Aaron Donald was at the Los Angeles Rams practice facility on Friday, and that’s not nothing.

TMZ caught the retired defensive tackle working out at the team’s complex. For a guy who walked away after the 2023 season as one of the best defenders the league has ever seen, showing up to the building in late July is worth paying attention to. He’s been retirement for a little over two years now. He’s 35 years old. And he’s still built like a tank that can collapse a pocket.

Let’s be clear here — the Rams haven’t announced anything. Donald hasn’t said a word publicly about unretiring. But the fact that he’s in the building, doing conditioning work, is a sign that at least he’s thinking about it. According to the TMZ report, he’s actively mulling a comeback. And that alone is enough to get Rams fans buzzing.

What a Donald Return Would Actually Mean for the Rams

The Rams went 12-5 last season. They made it to the NFC Championship Game and lost to the Seahawks, who went on to win the Super Bowl. So the window isn’t closed. This is a team that’s right there. Adding Aaron Donald to a defensive line that already features Kobie Turner and Byron Young would be borderline unfair.

Donald played in all 17 games in his final season. He put up 53 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, eight sacks, and three pass deflections. Those numbers are still elite for an interior defensive lineman. And this is a guy who only missed a handful of games in his entire 10-year career. Durability was never an issue for him.

The Rams also have a new offensive coordinator for the first time in years — Mike LaFleur left to become the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. So there’s going to be some adjustment on that side of the ball. But the defense? If Donald comes back, that unit instantly becomes a top-five group on paper.

Is This Really Happening?

Nobody knows for sure. The team hasn’t confirmed anything beyond the sighting. But Donald showing up to work out at the facility in the middle of summer is a pretty loud statement. He’s not there for a charity event. He’s not there to sign autographs. He’s doing physical work. That’s a guy testing his body to see if it still has one more run in it.

The Rams have cap space to work with. They have a roster that’s ready to compete. And they have a legend who, at 35, might still be better than 90 percent of the defensive tackles in the league. The pieces are there. It’s just a matter of whether Donald wants to put the pads back on.

If he does, the NFC just got a whole lot more interesting.
