Jalen Brunson gave a speech at the Knicks’ title parade Thursday that didn’t pull any punches. But the real viral moment came from a fan who turned a potential arrest into a highlight reel.
A video circulating on social media shows a Knicks supporter juking past multiple police officers near the Canyon of Heroes in Manhattan. The guy hit a hard cutback at full speed, left a cop grabbing air, and disappeared into the crowd. No handcuffs. No citation. Just pure elusiveness.
Hoop Central posted the clip with the caption, “This Knicks fan running from the police at the parade is CRAZY.” At this point, it’s got more views than some of the actual parade footage.
Brunson didn’t hold back on the mic
While fans were creating their own chaos, Brunson stood behind a podium and delivered what might have been the most honest speech of the day. He didn’t thank the doubters. He told them where to go.
“There’s a lot of people that have a lot of negative stuff to say,” Brunson said. “There’s a lot of people who have a lot of opinions. But when you prove them wrong, you really don’t have to say s— to them. They don’t deserve it.”
The crowd lost it. That’s the kind of talk that plays well when you just dragged a franchise to its first title in 53 years.
Parade history and a weird detail
The Knicks’ last championship came in 1973. That team never got a ticker tape parade down the Canyon of Heroes. Neither did the 1970 squad. So for a lot of long-suffering fans, this was the first time they got to see their team roll through Lower Broadway with paper flying everywhere.
It took a while. The Knicks stumbled out of the gate against Atlanta in the first round, losing two of three. Then they flipped a switch. They swept Philly and Cleveland before taking out Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs in five games. Brunson was the engine the whole way.
As for the fan who turned into a human joystick against the NYPD? No word on if he got away clean or if they tracked him down later. But the tape is out there. And it’s amazing.
