Casemiro Picks Miami Over Saudi Money. It’s a Big Get for MLS.

Casemiro is leaving Manchester United on a free transfer when his contract expires June 30, and he’s already got his next stop locked in. Inter Miami. The Brazilian midfielder told United back in January he’d be walking away, and Fabrizio Romano’s now given it the official ‘here we go’ treatment.

The 33-year-old made 160 appearances across four seasons at Old Trafford. That first year he was brilliant, exactly the kind of defensive shield United had been begging for since Michael Carrick retired. But the drop-off from there was steep. His mobility fell off. His decision-making under pressure got shaky. By the end, Ruben Amorim wasn’t even including him in matchday squads. It was clear the guy was done in Manchester.

Why Miami and Not Saudi Arabia?

There was real interest from Al Ittihad and Al Nassr. Saudi clubs were ready to pay him big, and LA Galaxy actually held MLS discovery rights on him initially. That created a whole extra layer of negotiation. Miami had to go to the Galaxy and work out a settlement before they could even make their formal offer. It delayed things but it didn’t kill the deal.

Casemiro visited Miami with his family before deciding. The lifestyle draw won out over the Saudi checkbook. That’s worth noting. MLS is getting more of these types of decisions now. Not just aging stars cashing out, but guys who could still play at a high level choosing the league for other reasons.

What He Brings to Inter Miami

He’s basically replacing Sergio Busquets as the anchor in midfield. Miami won the MLS title last season with Busquets, Messi, and Rodrigo De Paul running things. Casemiro slides right into that slot. The secondary transfer window opens July 13, so that’s the earliest he’d actually suit up for Miami.

There was a Brazilian report floating around claiming Casemiro would make about €80 million per season, which would put him above even Messi’s salary. That’s almost certainly not real. MLS roster rules and Miami’s existing wage structure don’t allow for that kind of number. Ignore it.

What United Does Next

Getting Casemiro’s wages off the books was a structural necessity for INEOS and their PSR management. United are deep in talks to sign Ederson from Atalanta as his long-term replacement. That deal would give Amorim the kind of midfielder he actually wants running things. Whether it gets done before preseason starts is another question.

The Miami announcement should come within days. Registration follows July 13. After that, it’s just a matter of seeing how much the old Casemiro is still in there.
