Bryce Harper did something Saturday that no Philadelphia Phillie has pulled off in two years. He hit for the cycle.
The five-time All-Star completed the feat with a triple in the bottom of the fifth inning, capping a 15-3 demolition of the New York Mets at Citizens Bank Park. That triple drove in two runs and made it 13-1. The game was effectively over by then, but Harper had already put on a show.
How Harper Got It Done
He started with a solo home run in the first inning, jumping on a 93 mph fastball. In the third, he doubled on another 93 mph heater and later scored on a throwing error. He came back up in that same inning and ripped a single to right field. By the time that inning ended, the Phillies led 11-0.
Then came the triple in the fifth. Harper is 33 now and playing first base mostly. He’s not exactly a burner on the bases anymore. But he got that triple, and the crowd lost it.
Harper is hitting .259 this season with 16 home runs and 43 RBIs through 76 games. Not his best year at the plate, but he can still put together a historic afternoon like this one.
Schwarber Went Way Deep Too
Harper wasn’t the only Phillie making noise. Kyle Schwarber hit a 456-foot home run that soared into the upper deck. That one earned fans a free Baja Blast from the promotional deal the team runs. Schwarber’s blast was one of those no-doubters where the outfielders don’t even bother turning around.
The 15 runs were a season high for Philadelphia. Their previous best was 11 against the Pittsburgh Pirates in a 10-inning game. Saturday also marked the third time this season the Phillies have put up 10 runs or more.
Harper’s cycle was the first by a Phillie since 2024. It was also the talk of social media almost immediately after he crossed the plate. MLB’s official account posted the video, and fans piled on with reactions ranging from awe to jokes about the Mets’ pitching staff.
The Phillies have been inconsistent this season, but days like this remind everyone what they’re capable of when the bats get hot. Harper is still the face of the franchise, and he proved it again on a Saturday afternoon in June.
