Manchester United Has an Ederson Deal All But Wrapped Up, Says the Player Himself

Brazilian midfielder Ederson Silva basically confirmed what everyone already suspected: his move to Manchester United is close to done.

Speaking to Sky Italia after Brazil beat Haiti 3-0 on Sunday at the World Cup, the Atalanta man didn’t exactly play coy. “I have to wait. Now I have to enjoy this moment, then we will see,” he said. “Certainly, everything is almost done, but now I to enjoy this moment. This is a wonderful experience and you have to enjoy the most.”

The 26-year-old is expected to become Michael Carrick’s first signing as permanent Manchester United manager. Reports from Italy and England peg the transfer fee at around £34 million with another £3.8 million in potential add-ons. Personal terms are reportedly a four-year contract with a one-year option.

Why United Is Pushing for This One

Ederson is being brought in to replace Casemiro, who’s expected to leave Old Trafford this summer. The Brazilian midfielder — not to be confused with the Manchester City goalkeeper of the same first name — has been a steady presence in Serie A for the past four seasons. He scored 13 goals and added four assists across 138 appearances for Atalanta. Those aren’t flashy numbers, but his role isn’t really about that. He’s a box-to-box midfielder who wins tackles, breaks up play, and keeps things moving.

Atalanta manager Raffaele Palladino basically admitted the move was coming back in May. “It was a choice agreed with the player because there is something happening on the transfer market,” he said. “The fact that a player like him is being followed by such an important club should be a source of pride.”

Ederson also got a late call-up to Brazil’s World Cup squad after Wesley went down with an injury. He came off the bench against Haiti, which is where he gave that interview. For a guy who’s about to move to one of the biggest clubs in the world, he seemed pretty relaxed.

United fans will be watching closely. Carrick took over as interim boss last season after Erik ten Hag was sacked, and the team played noticeably better under him. The board decided to make it permanent, and Ederson is the first real signal of what a Carrick-led transfer window might look like. No superstars, no drama. Just a solid, hard-working midfielder who fits a clear need.

If the deal closes as expected, Ederson will join up with United for preseason. And for a club that’s been chasing defensive stability for years, this could be the kind of under-the-radar signing that actually works out.
