Fastest Goal of the World Cup Just Went Down and Bayern Munich Is Watching Closely

Morocco’s Ismael Saibari just did something no one expected. Well, maybe Bayern Munich did.

The PSV Eindhoven attacker scored the fastest goal of the 2026 World Cup so far on Friday, burying one from a tight angle just 71 seconds into Morocco’s match against Scotland. That’s not even a full minute and a half. He read the play, stepped in front of some sloppy defending, and blasted down the right wing before the Scots even knew what hit them.

This isn’t a one-off either. Saibari already opened the scoring in Morocco’s 1-1 draw with Brazil earlier in the tournament. So that’s two goals in two World Cup appearances. According to Opta, only one other African player has done that — Mohamed Salah for Egypt. Not bad company.

The Bayern Connection

Bayern Munich had already submitted their interest in Saibari before the tournament kicked off. And if you’re a Bayern exec watching this, you’ve got to be feeling pretty good about that decision right now. Reports say his medical has already been completed and the deal will be announced after the World Cup. The club has not confirmed anything publicly, but the buzz is real.

Saibari, 25, plays as a forward or attacking midfielder — basically wherever you need someone who can find space and finish. He’s got that instinct for being in the right spot at the right time. And against Scotland, he also had the speed to punish a defense that gave him a step.

What This Means for Morocco

Morocco is trying to build on that historic 2022 run where they became the first African team to reach a World Cup semifinal. They’ve got talent all over the field, but Saibari is emerging as the guy who can produce in big moments. If he keeps this up, Morocco could make another deep run. And Bayern will have a front-row seat for all of it.

One thing’s for sure — Saibari isn’t done showing them what he can do. He’s got at least a couple more games to make an impression before he officially becomes theirs.
