The Bucks want three first-round picks in this draft. They currently have one.
That math doesn’t work unless something big happens. And according to multiple reports, that something big involves Giannis Antetokounmpo—the face of the franchise and arguably the best player in Bucks history.
Milwaukee has been signaling to rival teams and agents that they intend to secure as many as three first-round selections in the upcoming NBA Draft, per NBA insider Jake Fischer. The Bucks currently hold just one pick in the first round. To get two more, they’d almost certainly have to move Antetokounmpo, who remains one of the league’s most valuable trade assets.
“The Bucks continue to signal to rival teams and agents that they plan to have as many as three first-round picks in this draft … two more than their current allotment,” Fischer wrote. “Which should help explain why so many rival teams have been projecting that Milwaukee will at last push ahead with plans to trade its Face of the Franchise.”
One of those potential picks is Miami’s No. 13 overall selection. The Heat have reportedly offered a package centered around that pick, along with Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, and Jaime Jacquez Jr. For the Bucks to land a third first-rounder, they’d likely need a third team involved.
In a mock draft by Brett Siegel, a three-team framework emerged: Milwaukee gets the No. 8 and No. 17 picks plus Buddy Hield, Atlanta gets the No. 12 pick and Bobby Portis, and Oklahoma City gets the No. 10 pick. That deal hasn’t been confirmed—the Bucks have not commented on any specific trade scenario—but it suggests the front office is actively mapping out life after Antetokounmpo.
Why this matters for the rest of the league
A Giannis trade wouldn’t just reshape the Bucks. It would shake up the Eastern Conference power structure. Miami has long been linked to Antetokounmpo, but other suitors could emerge as the draft draws closer. The clock is ticking: the draft is less than a week away, and Milwaukee’s intentions are becoming clearer by the hour.
For fans, the idea of trading a two-time MVP is hard to swallow. But if Milwaukee is committed to a full rebuild, stockpiling picks is the logical first step. Whether the Heat or another team lands Giannis, one thing is certain: the next few days could redefine the NBA landscape.
