Cubs Allegedly Eyeing $85 Million Star Trade After Stunning Collapse

The Chicago Cubs are reportedly spiraling. After dropping eight of their last 11 games, what was once a promising season now looks dangerously close to falling apart. Sources close to the team say the front office is growing increasingly anxious as the club’s playoff hopes flicker — and according to multiple insiders, a major shakeup could be coming sooner than anyone expected.

The Bombshell Trade Proposal That Has Fans Buzzing

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic has reportedly thrown a match into the rumor mill, suggesting the Cubs should seriously consider moving right fielder Seiya Suzuki before the trade deadline. And let’s be real — this is not just a casual suggestion. According to Rosenthal, teams in need of a right-handed power bat will be lining up at the deadline, and the Cubs allegedly have the perfect piece to dangle.

“Quality right-handed bats will have immense value at the trade deadline,” Rosenthal wrote. “And the Chicago Cubs, a team arguably in need of a shakeup, feature a righty hitter other teams might covet: Right fielder Seiya Suzuki.”

A Down Year, But Still a Dangerous Bat

Suzuki, who signed a five-year, $85 million deal in 2022, is reportedly not having his best season — but insiders say his value on the trade market remains significant. The 29-year-old is slashing .247/.333/.421 with nine homers and 22 RBIs, numbers that are slightly below his usual standard. Still, one league source told us, “There are always teams willing to bet on a guy with Suzuki’s track record, especially for a stretch run.”

What makes this situation even more intriguing? Suzuki is in the final year of his contract. If the Cubs let him walk in free agency, they’d get only a compensatory draft pick. But by trading him now, they could reportedly land a starting pitcher — someone who could step in and address the team’s most glaring weakness.

The Clock Is Ticking

According to Rosenthal, the Cubs could sweeten any deal by chipping in cash to cover a portion of Suzuki’s remaining salary, which will be less than $6 million at the deadline. That kind of flexibility, insiders say, could turn a decent return into a haul.

“Perhaps Suzuki could bring back a starting pitcher who also is a potential free agent, helping the club fill a more dire need,” Rosenthal added.

With the Cubs sitting at a middling 34-34 and currently in fourth place in the NL Central, the pressure is reportedly mounting. They just wrapped up a series against the Colorado Rockies — and getting swept would be yet another red flag. Something has to give. And according to those watching closely, Suzuki’s name could be the first one called when the deadline bell rings.
