Andrey Santos Is Already Flashing the Skills That Got Manchester United to Pay Up

Manchester United’s summer transfer window started out looking like a disaster. They chased midfielders all over Europe. Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali, Aurelien Tchouameni, Mateus Fernandes. None of them showed up at Old Trafford. Then Ederson from Atalanta actually agreed to a deal. And then he failed his medical. United pulled the plug.

But the last week has flipped the script. United locked up three signings: Karl Darlow, Youri Tielemans, and the one who’s really got people talking, Andrey Santos. The 22-year-old Brazilian was the first one to put pen to paper this summer. And now the club has released training footage from Carrington that shows exactly why they wanted him.

What the Video Shows

The clip is short but it tells you a lot. Santos is out on a sun-drenched Carrington pitch. And he’s grinning the whole time. Not a fake smile for the cameras. The guy looks genuinely happy to be there. He works through passing drills, turns with the ball under pressure, keeps his head up. There’s a looseness to his movement that stands out. He’s not just going through the motions.

This is a kid who’s already played Champions League minutes for Chelsea. He knows what it feels like to be under a microscope at a big club. That matters. Because United’s midfield has been a problem for years. Too slow. Not technical enough. Easy to play through. Santos doesn’t fix everything by himself. But he raises the passing quality on the floor immediately. And alongside Tielemans, United suddenly has two midfielders who can actually keep the ball under pressure.

The Premier League’s official site describes Santos as an effective ball winner. Someone who excels in ground duels. That’s a nice way of saying he’s not afraid to get stuck in. United fans have been begging for a midfielder with that kind of edge since Casemiro’s legs started going.

Why This One Feels Different

United’s summer didn’t start with a plan that worked. It started with a plan that fell apart. But sometimes the signing you end up with is better than the one you wanted. Santos didn’t go to the World Cup. He’s been training with the club since the start of the week. That’s rare for a new signing. Most of them show up late, need time to adjust, miss the first chunk of preseason. Not this guy.

He’s already in the building. Already smiling. Already doing the work. That doesn’t guarantee he’ll be a star. But it’s a better start than most.
