Kevin Durant and LeBron James will both be at Fanatics Fest in New York this week. That doesn’t mean KD has the inside scoop on where LeBron is going to be playing next season.

Durant was at the MLB All-Star Game in Philadelphia on Tuesday when NBC Sports Philadelphia’s John Clark asked him point-blank: Do you know what LeBron James is going to do?

Durant’s answer was honest. He has no idea. None. But he did have a take that should make whichever team lands James feel a little better about their chances.

“Wherever he goes, I know he’s going to ball out and show that he still got a lot left in the tank at 42 years old,” Durant told Clark. “Any team is going to be better because of him.”

LeBron’s Decision Could Come This Week

James is reportedly planning to record a podcast on Thursday and shoot a show Friday at Fanatics Fest. That timing has fueled speculation that he’s ready to announce his free agency decision this week. The 41-year-old forward is coming off a first-round playoff win over the Houston Rockets in May, but his future with the Los Angeles Lakers is anything but certain.

According to multiple reports, the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers and Philadelphia 76ers are the frontrunners. ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel noted that the Golden State Warriors are still actively pursuing James, who recently vacationed with Warriors forward Draymond Green in Puerto Rico. That’s the kind of off-court connection that gets fans talking — even if Durant isn’t buying the idea that anyone knows where this is headed.

The Rockets themselves have barely been mentioned as a possible destination. Houston’s front office seems locked in on developing its young core, and the team already got a close look at what James can do in the playoffs. He led the Lakers past the Rockets in the first round back in May.

Durant, 37, is handling his own business at Fanatics Fest this week too. But the question everyone wants answered is about James. And for now, the guy who’s played with and against him on the biggest stages is just as much in the dark as the rest of us.
