Kevin Durant Showed Up at the MLB All-Star Game and Fans Had the Perfect Response

Kevin Durant walked into Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday and immediately became the biggest story that had nothing to do with the actual game. The Houston Rockets forward was there to take in the MLB All-Star Game, one of those rare nights where baseball’s best share a field and the real action happens in the stands.

Durant, who turns 38 this year, has been hitting up WNBA games too. He’s clearly trying to soak up every last bit of summer before the NBA grind starts back up. But this wasn’t just a casual appearance. During batting practice, he linked up with a couple of first-time All-Stars who looked like they’d just met a superhero.

Chicago White Sox infielder Munetaka Murakami and Cleveland Guardians second baseman Travis Bazzana were absolutely buzzed to meet the two-time Finals MVP. MLB’s official account caught the moment and posted it, and the internet did what the internet does.

Fans had a lot of thoughts. Some were just happy to see KD at the ballpark. “Great to see Kevin Durant out there at the MLB All-Star Game!” said one user. Another admitted, “I always forget he’s a big baseball fan.”

But the best reactions were the ones that took a playful jab at Durant’s notorious history with moving teams. One fan wrote, “At this point, if KD says, ‘Nice to meet you,’ the internet hears, ‘Come join my team.'” Another joked, “His next chapter.”

KD’s Baseball Obsession Runs Deep

This isn’t just a guy who shows up for the big event. Durant genuinely loves baseball. He grew up a Washington Nationals fan — that’s his hometown team — and he played first base in high school. These days he spreads his fandom around, also repping the White Sox and the San Francisco Giants.

And yeah, he’s got opinions on the biggest star in the sport. Durant has called Shohei Ohtani a “different breed” and a “freak of nature” for the two-way thing. Which is funny coming from a guy who’s basically a freak of nature at 6-foot-10 with a handle like a point guard.

One fan noticed Durant’s outfit choice in the Philadelphia heat and couldn’t let it slide. “It’s like 100 (degrees), and KD would dress like it’s March,” they wrote. True. The man is never going to look like he’s sweating, even if he is.

Durant’s MLB All-Star cameo was brief but it gave everyone something to talk about. The real question is whether any of those All-Stars he met will end up on a team with him someday. With KD, you never know.
