World Cup Stories Are Selling Roma to This West Ham Winger

Crysencio Summerville might be the next West Ham player out the door, and it sounds like a few conversations with a Netherlands teammate at the World Cup helped point him toward Rome.

The 24-year-old winger spent part of the tournament in Qatar trading stories with Donyell Malen, who apparently had plenty to say about life at Roma. According to Italian outlet Il Romanista, those chats made a real impression. Summerville is now open to the move, and Roma is pushing to get it done.

West Ham already watched Mateus Fernandes walk to Tottenham for £85 million. That fee helps, but losing another starter would sting. The club just got relegated, and the roster is getting picked apart. Summerville has a deal that runs through 2029 with a club option for another year, but that kind of paper doesn’t stop a transfer if the price is right.

Roma head coach Gian Piero Gasperini likes what he sees from the Dutch winger. Earlier this year, Summerville’s wage demands reportedly put him out of range. But the numbers have shifted. The fee now sits around €40 million, and his salary request is under €4 million. That’s doable for Roma.

Summerville had a solid World Cup — two goals and two assists in four games. That kind of production tends to draw attention. A bunch of Premier League clubs have sniffed around. Tottenham was mentioned as a possibility, but nothing serious ever materialized. Roma seems to be the one actually working.

The club has made contact with Summerville’s camp to sort out personal terms. The next step is agreeing on a fee with West Ham. Reports suggest things could become clear in the next few hours. That might be optimistic, but it tells you how far along the talks are.

West Ham is in a tough spot. They’ve got a good player who wants to leave, a relegated team’s leverage, and a suitor with a real offer. Summerville gets a fresh start in Serie A. And Malen? He gets credit for the recruiting assist.
