Leandro Trossard is packing his bags for Istanbul. The Arsenal winger is scheduled for a medical with Besiktas on Tuesday, and the move looks pretty much done.
Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reports the Belgian international is leaving North London for a fee around €20 million. That’s a tidy return for a guy who turned 31 last December and still had a year left on his deal.
Trossard wasn’t just riding the bench for Arsenal’s title run either. He put up six goals and six assists in 31 Premier League appearances this past season. Not flashy numbers, but consistent. The kind of production that helps you win a league.
His agent Dirk Hebel worked out a four-year contract running through 2030. Trossard and his camp gave the green light after Belgium got knocked out of the World Cup in the quarterfinals by Spain. He played every game in North America for the Red Devils, so he’s not exactly cold coming into this transfer.
What Besiktas Gets
Besiktas is getting a veteran winger who can play anywhere across the front line. Trossard’s been doing this at a high level for years — Brighton, Arsenal, Belgium. He’s not a guy who relies on pace alone. He reads the game well, finds pockets of space, and usually makes the right decision in the final third.
The Turkish Süper Lig has been grabbing Premier League veterans pretty regularly lately. Trossard fits that mold. He’ll be expected to produce immediately.
What Arsenal Loses
For Arsenal, this is smart business. Trossard was useful but not irreplaceable. The club has younger options coming through and probably needs to balance the books after some spending in previous windows. €20 million for a 31-year-old with one year left? That’s decent money.
Mikel Arteta might miss Trossard’s versatility though. The guy could slot in on either wing or even as a false nine when needed. That kind of flexibility matters over a long season, especially in Europe.
The deal should be official once Trossard passes the medical. Besiktas fans are already buzzing on social media about what he can bring.
