Man Utd Faces Hefty Price Tag for Koné as Soulé’s Agent Heads to England

Welcome to mid-July transfer season, where Serie A clubs are suddenly open for business and the math gets real fast.

Reports out of Italy on Saturday indicate Roma has slapped a €55 million price tag on midfielder Manu Koné, who Manchester United has been tracking for weeks. That’s roughly $60 million for those keeping score in American currency. And Roma isn’t just floating a number to start negotiations. According to Il Corriere dello Sport, that’s the floor.

Here’s why Roma is even listening to offers: UEFA hit the club with a fine and the Giallorossi need to clean up their financial books before the next audit cycle. That means some big names could be out the door. Koné, a France international who joined Roma last summer, fits the profile of a sale that would generate serious capital gains.

United, for its part, has reportedly passed on Atalanta’s Ederson to keep its focus on Koné. That tells you how badly they want this particular midfielder. Whether they’re willing to hit €55 million is another question entirely.

Soulé’s Agent on the Move

Meanwhile, Argentine winger Matias Soulé is generating his own Premier League interest. His agent, Martin Guastadisegno, has already traveled to England for meetings with Sunderland and Fulham, per the same Italian outlet.

Soulé, 22, is valued at around €35 million by Roma. Here’s the part that matters for the club’s books: his amortized cost sits at just €15.5 million. That means selling him for €35 million would produce a capital gain of roughly €20 million. In the world of UEFA financial fair play compliance, that kind of profit is practically found money.

Soulé spent four years in Juventus’s system before moving to Rome, and he’s shown flashes of the creative spark that made him a prospect to watch. Fulham and Sunderland are both looking for attacking reinforcements. Sunderland, back in the Premier League, sees him as a potential starter. Fulham views him as versatile depth that could play either wing.

Neither club has submitted a formal bid yet, but the agent’s presence in England suggests things could move quickly.

Roma isn’t desperate to sell both players. They’d prefer to keep one. But if the right offers come in, the financial pressure might make that decision for them. Koné is the bigger prize, and the bigger fee. Soulé is the easier sale to balance the books. United is the wild card.
