Borussia Dortmund has apparently put a number on Julian Ryerson’s head. And it’s not small.
According to Turkish transfer insider Ekrem Konur writing for German outlet Fussballdaten, the versatile Norway international is being tracked by Manchester United, FC Barcelona, AC Milan, and Inter. None of those clubs have made a formal offer yet. But if they do, Dortmund is reportedly looking for somewhere between €30 million and €35 million to let him go.
That’s a decent chunk of change for a 28-year-old who arrived from Union Berlin for a relative bargain. Ryerson has been a Swiss Army knife for Dortmund — comfortable at right back, left back, and even pushing into midfield when needed. That flexibility is exactly why Europe’s big spenders are still watching him.
World Cup Stage Raises the Stakes
Ryerson is currently with Norway at the World Cup. They’ve got a quarterfinal matchup against England coming up, which means his profile is only going to get bigger if he performs. A strong showing there could either push Dortmund to cash in or make them dig in harder on that asking price.
He’s under contract through 2028, so there’s no pressure to sell. Dortmund doesn’t need to move him this summer. But they also know that if a club like Manchester United or Barca comes in with €35 million on the table, that’s a tough offer to ignore for a player who turns 29 next season.
What Ryerson Brings to the Table
He’s not flashy. He’s not going to blow anyone away with skill moves or viral highlights. What he does is defend smartly, cover ground, and rarely get caught out of position. He can play in a back four or a back five, and he’s comfortable in transition. For a team like Inter or Milan that plays a lot of tactical football, that kind of reliability is gold.
For Manchester United, he’d be a rotation piece who can cover multiple positions without complaining. For Barcelona, he’d be cheap-ish depth in a squad that needs exactly that.
No official bids have come in yet. But you don’t get your name linked to four of Europe’s biggest clubs without something cooking behind the scenes. The price tag is out there now. It’s just a question of who blinks first.
