LeBron James in a Sixers uniform. It sounds wild, but after Philadelphia traded for Jaylen Brown, the possibility suddenly feels a lot less like fantasy basketball and more like something that could actually happen this summer.
The Sixers are reportedly one of the frontrunners to land the 41-year-old superstar, alongside the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Miami Heat. LeBron’s agent, Rich Paul, didn’t exactly shut down the speculation. In fact, he admitted the Brown trade got their attention.
“Philadelphia, everything changed,” Paul said on “Game Over.” “How could you not have his attention when you have Maxey, Edgecombe, Brown, and Joel Embiid?”
That’s a loaded roster. Tyrese Maxey is already a star. Joel Embiid is a former MVP when healthy. Add Jaylen Brown and a potential No. 1 pick like VJ Edgecombe, and you’ve got a core that could contend immediately. The math makes sense.
But ESPN’s Brian Windhorst isn’t buying the vibes.
“I think it’d be flat-out weird to see him in Philadelphia. The vibe is off with that,” Windhorst said. “The vibe feels right with Cleveland, the vibe feels right with Miami. But it’s just a vibe. It’s not anything that he’s actually said publicly or anybody.”
Windhorst said the people he’s talked to are all just going off feelings. No hard intel. No confirmation. Just gut checks.
That didn’t stop Sixers fans from lighting him up online.
“Since when does Brian Windhorst understand ‘vibes,’” one user posted.
“He understands vibes at the local bakery,” another jabbed.
A third fan took a more personal shot: “These guys put their two cents in with their emotions, and they just sound completely idiotic.”
It’s not the first time LeBron and Windhorst have had tension. Back in March, James called Windhorst out publicly for claiming they had a close relationship. LeBron said the whole dynamic was “weird.”
For context, Windhorst has covered LeBron since his high school days at St. Vincent-St. Mary. He also went to the same school. So there’s history. But history doesn’t mean inside access, and fans are tired of reporters acting like they’re in the room when they’re clearly not.
Whether LeBron actually ends up in Philly is still anyone’s guess. But the conversations are happening. The rumors are swirling. And the only thing everyone seems to agree on is that Windhorst’s opinion doesn’t carry much weight with the people who actually root for the team.
