Scottie Scheffler Has a Request for the PGA Tour’s International Future

The PGA Tour keeps pushing into new corners of the globe, and Scottie Scheffler has a couple of places in mind where he’d like to see that expansion land.

Speaking ahead of the Scottish Open this week, the World No. 1 was asked about the tour’s potential plans to add more international events to its fall schedule. His answer was direct and personal. Scheffler said he’d love to play in Australia and New Zealand, and he’s not the only one in his household pushing for that trip.

“It definitely interests me,” Scheffler said. “I’d like to see how that shapes out in the next couple of years. There’s a lot of places I think I’d like to play, there’s always just the time and the place for me. I’m at a time of my life where I have a young family at home and young kids. The fall is kind of a special time for our family, it’s where we can really check out and be together. I get to spend a lot of time with my kids. I hold those moments pretty sacred.”

But he also made it clear the golf itch hasn’t gone anywhere.

“At the same time, I love golf. I would love to be able to play more internationally. Australia, New Zealand is a place that we would love to be able to go to. My wife has always wanted to go to New Zealand.”

Scheffler’s season so far

It’s been a weird year by his standards. Scheffler still leads the FedEx Cup standings, which tells you how good he’s been even without his usual trophy haul. He has one win on the season, and that’s a far cry from the pace he set the last couple years. He also hasn’t won a major yet in 2026, which is notable for a guy who dominated last year’s Open Championship.

That Open win feels like it happened in a different life even though it was only 12 months ago. He’s still the betting favorite this week at the Scottish Open, and for good reason. The course setup at the Renaissance Club tends to reward the kind of all-around game Scheffler brings. He doesn’t have a weakness right now, which is more than most guys in the field can say.

The Scottish Open is co-sanctioned with the DP World Tour and serves as the final tune-up before The Open Championship. Scheffler will spend two weeks overseas before heading back to the States. He’d like to pick up a couple trophies along the way, but the travel calculus is getting more complicated now that he’s a dad with young kids at home.

The fall is when the Tour has talked about expanding internationally. Australia and New Zealand make sense as destinations, both for the time zone logistics and the golf culture. Scheffler just needs the schedule to line up with his family’s calendar. That’s not a small ask, but it’s not impossible either.
